FAQ

The titanium version is distinctively different in size, bumper design (none), pack pocket friendliness, and versatility with stoves. GeoPress® Ti is slightly smaller in both diameter and height making it easier to handle and optimally sized for any backpack pocket. It's also bumper-free which makes it incredibly easy to slide into pockets with ease. The Outer Ti Cup features large folding handles sized for optimal functionality for boiling water and cooking at camp alongside hot coals or on most pocket stoves. GeoPress® Ti is undoubtably Grayl's most engineered bottle to date.

Both models offer the highest level of protection from waterborne pathogens (99.99% of virus, 99.9999% of bacteria, and 99.9% of protozoan cysts, including Rotavirus, Hepatitis A, Norovirus, Giardiasis, Cryptosporidium, E. Coli, Cholera, Salmonella, Dysentery). They also filter many heavy metals, chemicals, and microplastics.

Grayl® Titanium Bottles are made from CP4 Grade 1 Titan, BPA-free polypropylene #5, food-grade silicone, TPE and ABS food-grade plastic. Our products are designed in Seattle, Washington, and manufactured by our partners in China with the exception of our cartridge media which is produced in the United States.

Yes, experience the hydration benefits of electrolyte-infused water in a UltraPress® or GeoPress® when equipped with a One-Way Electrolyte & Drink-Mix Valve (available since April 2023).

Always add electrolytes into the clean drinking water side. Avoid adding flavoring or electrolytes directly into a cartridge not equipped with a One-Way Drink Mix Valve, as it can diminish the cartridge's lifespan and efficacy. In those situations, pour the clean drinking water into another water vessel and then add electrolytes or flavorings.

To avoid contamination, use the Spout Cap. If dirty water comes in contact with the Inner Press, wash the Grayl (not the cartridge) with soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Alternatively, dilute contaminants by pressing and agitating water through your GeoPress® Ti Bottle 5-7 times.

There are a variety of available methods to avoid cross-contamination during transfer of clean water into your Outer Ti Cup when preparing hot meals. Really depends on the environment you're in at the time you're preparing to prepare hot water. Below are the two most common methods.

Method #1. Purify and filter your water, separate your Inner Purifier Press from Outer Ti Cup; then wash your Outer Ti Cup with biodegradable soap. Disperse suds and lightly rinse with a little clean water before filling with clean water and bringing to a boil.

Method #2. Purify and filter your water, then separate Inner Purifier Press from Outer Ti Cup. Then dump excess water from Outer Ti Cup and towel dry the inside of the Outer Ti Cup prior to filling with clean water and bringing to a rolling boil.

To maximize the lifespan of a cartridge, always choose the clearest water. GeoPress® cartridges deliver ~350 cycles (250 liters / 65 gallons) while UltraPress® offer ~300 cycles (150 liters / 40 gallons). Water quality matters; avoid silt and sediment. Preemptively filter out silt and sediment with a handkerchief or t-shirt to extend the life of a cartridge.

The time it takes to press with your GeoPress® or UltraPress® will gradually increase over time. We recommend replacing the cartridge once the 'press time' reaches approximately 25 seconds (or three years have passed since the first use). Please note that colder water may require longer pressing time and does not necessarily mean the cartridge needs to be replaced.

An unused and airtight cartridge can be stored for up to 10 years. Once opened, use it for 3 years or until press time is ~25 seconds.

GeoPress® cartridges filter and purify most freshwater sources. Avoid using them with salty or brackish water. When treating freshwater, start with the cleanest water available, such as streams and rivers.

Grayl's activated carbon effectively adsorbs many chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, etc. However, it is not designed for industrial disasters, coal ash spills, high lead levels, mercury, nuclear disasters, high tannin concentrations, or water with toxic blue-green algae (e.g. cyanobacteria). Find another water source in those situations.

Grayl cartridges are designed to remove low levels of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, etc., but are NOT designed to protect against industrial disasters, coal ash spills, very high lead levels, mercury, nuclear disasters, high tannin concentrations or water that contains toxic blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). In these conditions, it is very important to find another water source.

Grayl® cartridges contains non-woven ceramic fibers that have a high electropositive charge. These fibers effectively block and trap microorganisms and particulates, ensuring that submicron contaminants are removed through electroadsorption. Additionally, the cartridge is equipped with ultra-powdered activated carbon, which efficiently adsorbs chemicals, heavy metals, bad flavors, and odors.

Proper maintenance for your GeoPress® Titanium is crucial for optimal performance. After your adventures, ensure to follow these simple steps to keep your purifier in top shape. Start with a 'dry press' by pressing the wet purifier into the empty Outer Ti Cup and disposing of excess water. Next, remove the cartridge and allow it to air-dry for 2-4 days. For the remaining components, hand wash them with warm, soapy water and let them air-dry. To maximize the lifespan of the cartridge, store the unit assembled. With proper care, the cartridge can last up to three years.

Best Out There

"I’ve been backpacking for 20+ years and the evolution of water filters has come a long way. I have owned three Grayls over the years but the Ti bottle reigns supreme. At this point the concept has been perfected. High durability ultralight titanium with the ability to boil has truly set this bottle apart. I just gave away two old jetboils because this bottle has me covered. Then, when you don’t think it can get any better; I reached out to Grayl after placing my order to have the package expedited so I wouldn't miss a last second spring bear hunt. I also mentioned I selected the wrong color cooking lid when placing my order. I received my package two days before the hunt with a second lid included. Top it off with a Veteran discount. You have a loyal customer for life! Thank you!"

Best First Line Water Solution

"I love my GeoPress and have used it for years. The titanium cup is next level and makes it a two stage solution. I keep one in my vehicles and all my bags. You should too."

David A. (5/5)

Great Travel Companion

"This is the 3rd GeoPress I've bought- the others still work great, I just wanted a lighter one to travel with. The system is simple and fool-proof, which I've learned to appreciate; not having to worry about water quality while traveling is a huge relief."

Ray R. (5/5)

Very Good, not great!

"The product is not all that it is cracked up to be. There should be a line on the part where you fill the water with. There should be a recommendation fill line. The Stainless steel Pathfinder is already rusting. The price for this product is premium and it appears to be cheap China quality! 24oz is not enough. In a hot place like Houston, I have to fill this product up two or three times a day. 32oz would have been much better."

G B. (4/5)

Simply Great

"I love its compact and modularity!! Works well with my favorite coffee and is very easy to use!! Taking with me to Italy for a 3 week backpacking adventure!!! Keep up the great work!!"

Thomas L. (5/5)

Must buy

"I already had the Geo Ti and I love it, but I wanted one for the outdoors and one for the gym and other tap water sources. The Black feels smoother and looks clean."

Blake H. (5/5)

Quality, light weight and everyday

"Quality, light weight and everyday use."

Ian B. (5/5)

Blows away the competition

"After years of using other water purification methods, I’ve finally what I’ve been looking for. Truly an ‘all in one’ experience. This is now my go to for hunting & backcountry expeditions. After using the GeoPress Ti Black, I’ve been able to take a few things out of my pack I no longer need. Very impressed. Grayl, you’ve got a customer for life."

Tim R. (5/5)

"4th Grayl purchased"

Patricia (5/5)

Best product ever!

"This is my third product from Grayl. I keep one in my car, one in my go bag and one in my hunting bag. Would not leave home without it."

Q&A

My order # is 9434609105114152252875 I received the cook lid in the box with the bottle. And received an extra cook lid. I thought I added the extra cartridge to my order not the extra cook lid... This might have been a mistake on my end. Can I return the extra lid and order the extra cartridge?
Thank you so much for reaching out. Your order was for a single black GeoPress Ti (which includes a cook lid). This order did not include an extra cartridge.
Can this press be at temps bellow freezing?
Although our purifiers can be used when temps are below freezing, there are still some precautions that need to be taken. Do not use a cartridge after three or more freeze/thaw cycles. Protect your Grayl Purifier Cartridge in freezing temperatures by keeping it full of water and insulated in a jacket or sleeping bag. For extra precaution, secure in a sealed zip lock bag before placing in insulated jacket or sleeping bag. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the "freezing" section of the user manual before venturing into such conditions with your Grayl.
How easily is this scratched? I love the black but hate when it gets scratched and you see the silver titanium underneath. Thank you!
The black GeoPress Ti is our most robust and resilient purifier to date. It is coated with a high performing, abrasion resistant PVD coating. Maybe not grizzly bear proof, but definitely ready for any adventure ahead!
Are the parts of the oridginal GeoPress Ti interchangable with the new Ti Black model ?
Yes. The pvd Black GeoPress Ti has a special coating applied to it, but other than for that unique feature, it is identical with the raw titanium GeoPress Ti - eaning that the components are otherwise the same.
